This month’s math puzzle was submitted by Dougal McVicar.

ABC is made up of four pieces. DEF is made of the same pieces, but in a difference arrangement. But in the DEF arrangement they appear to occupy an area that is one square unit less than in the ABC arrangement. How can this be?
