Born in the City of Joy Calcutta, India in 1978
to a businessman father and a homemaker mother, I grew up
as a young boy who had been imbibed with the virtues of hard
work and the realization of the power of knowledge; a boy
who would cheer the Indian cricket team on every run scored
and who loved to swim and to listen to old Hindi songs.
I developed a love for English Literature (admired Shakespeare
and Milton) and for something radically different: Physics.
Mechanics and Electrodynamics were my all-time charmers. Chemistry
used to confuse me until I stepped into the stupendous world
of organic chemistry
a world in order
a world
in perfect harmony… in my higher secondary years.
I was always driven by a passion for generating and creating
wealth and felt the best way to pursue my interests as well
as my drive was to take up engineering. What followed were
perhaps the most challenging and certainly the most exciting
days of my life
when I prepared for the entrance exams
that I had to take to enter The Indian Institute of Technology,
Kharagpur (IITKGP as we called it). It was a dream-come-true
for me.
IITKGP was where I first read Ayn Rand and then went on to
become a passionate fan. Eric Segal followed close behind
though. I loved playing water polo and also had a passion
for public speaking.
My final year project gave me the opportunity to work for
General Motors R & D Labs. I modeled their automobile
production system and developed software that would predict
the throughput of complex lines much faster and with much
higher accuracy than the previously available models.
Schlumberger gave me a campus offer in Jan 2001 and placed
me with WesternGeco. I am currently working as a Marine Seismic
Engineer (since May 2001) and getting trained on the acquisition,
navigation and processing sides of the seismic business.
