SEED

The SEED Science Center is a public place where Schlumberger scientists and engineers share their knowledge and experience with learners and teachers from around the world. The web site is organized into six areas:

In Science Watch you will find articles on various topics in science and engineering. They are grouped into categories:

  • Earth Watch is about geology, geophysics, and other earth sciences.
  • People In Motion has tales of traveling to remote and interesting places around the world.
  • Sports & Science highlights well-known and some not so well-known sports, often with insights into the underlying science of the games.
  • Inventing Our World is about the things we design and build.
  • Air & Space Watch explores the sky and in the rest of the Universe.

Science Lab has hands-on and virtual experiments that you can do at home or in school, and collaborative projects that you may participate in. Many of these activities are related to concepts and topics presented in Science Watch articles. The Science Lab is divided into several areas:

  • Earth Science
  • Air & Space
  • Electricity & Magnetism
  • Properties of Liquids
  • Math Puzzle of the Month
  • Engineering Challenge

Meet The Experts is about the Schlumberger people behind the SEED Science Center. You can read about how they first became interested in science and engineering, what excites them and stimulates them about the work they do today, and how their careers developed.

Careers in Science offers a window into the lives of scientists and engineers. You can read about the journeys they took to arrive at their present positions and what their day to day work involves. This section of the web site also includes Women in Science and Engineering, a feature devoted to the issues faced by women in what have traditionally been male-dominated occupations.

SEED Journal is a place where young people can publish the results of their science and engineering projects. You may submit a finished project, which will be reviewed by a panel of SEED Experts, or you may start with an idea that we can help you develop. We can also arrange to have a mentor work with you, or put you in contact with other young people around the world who are working on projects that are similar to yours.

Teacher’s Corner offers guidance on incorporating the SEED Science Center into your school's science curriculum. It features correlations between Science Center content and the National Science Education Standards (USA) and the National Curriculum (England and Wales).

Digging DeeperDigging Deeper links, throughout the Science Center, point to more in-depth and sophisticated content. These pages are useful for parents and teachers who want additional background information to enable them to better assist their youngsters, and for anyone who wants to know more about a particular topic.

Ask the Experts links are also found throughout the Science Center. If you have questions about an article or experiment, just follow this link. You will be able to browse the archive of previous exchanges for a question similar to yours. If you don't find what you need, just submit your question and the SEED Experts will respond.
