"A journey of one thousand miles starts
with one single step."
- Born in Bauru, Brazil, October 19th 1956
- B.A. Civil Engineering
- Escola Politecnica, University of Sao Paulo,
1979
- Areas of interest outside work
- Sport [esp. tennis], motorcycles (I brought
my Harley from Dubai), reading, playing guitar,
watching movies, barbeques with family and friends
at home.
I was born in Bauru, a small Brazilian town about
300 km away from Sao Paulo and grew up in Aracatuba,
another small town in the same state of Sao Paulo.
When I was seventeen, I went to the USA as an
exchange student (Youth for Understanding), a
remarkable experience that changed my life forever.
I lived for six months in Orofino, Idaho (3000
people) with an American family.
As the OFS Manager in Mexico North, I got involved
with the SEED initiative in my region. Unfortunately
at the time of my transfer to Mexico (August 2002),
we had some floods in Reynosa which damaged rather
badly one of the schools we had implemented this
program (we currently have SEED in three schools
in Reynosa). So, it was a good time for me to
get involved and sort out the problems they were
facing and put them back online as quickly as
possible. Now we have assembled a team of volunteers
in our office who make constant visits and support
this initiative quite well. I am kept informed
of what’s happening and once in awhile we
meet with the schools Principals for some feedback
and discussions on improvements.
I come from a third world country (Brazil) and
I understand the reality of our public schools
in Latin America, so I was quite moved to see
that Schlumberger is helping provide underprivileged
students in Mexico with connectivity, motivating
them to communicate with people around the world,
expanding their horizons and helping their learning
process all along. This is the beauty of the program!
Since my early age I always said that I would
be an engineer and I'm not sure why, perhaps I
was motivated by my father. He always told me
not to be a lawyer, like him. After two initial
years in the Escola Politecnica at the University
of Sao Paulo, I decided to take Civil Engineering,
as it would give me the possibility of having
my own business. I graduated in December 1979
and joined Petrobras, the Brazilian state owned
Oil Company, in January 1980 after a national
entrance exam. I worked for Petrobras for seven
years, in various capacities until I got an offer
from Anadrill (later renamed as Drilling &
Measurements) and decided to change my life working
overseas with Schlumberger. This was in July 1986;
it seems like yesterday, time flies when you are
having fun...
As the OFS Manager in Reynosa, some of my main
responsibilities are: ensure we have a strong
team work within our Segments (One Schlumberger),
promote QHSE with all employees and clients, look
for business opportunities and growth, be the
focal point for Schlumberger in my region and
manage our growth while keeping our employees
motivated and fully trained.
I like sports, motorcycles (I brought my Harley
from Dubai), reading, watching movies (got a good
selection of DVD's at home) and enjoying the family
and friends with a BBQ at home. I am an avid player
of tennis though I'm still a beginner, and I have
decided to learn how to play guitar now. I would
like to think of myself as a good husband and
father, highly motivated by everything I do at
home or work. I like meeting people, traveling,
seeing other cultures and learning a new thing
every day. I hope they see this "not-so-serious";
side of me, and my passion for family life and
company values.
