SEEDKITS

SEED is bringing workshops and activities to students everywhere with a collection of SEEDKITS: self-contained activities designed to complement the SEED Online Science Center and that can be used at schools and in homes anywhere around the world. Volunteers that would like to get involved in hands-on school projects and teachers looking for fun activities for their students should take part.
Each SEEDKIT contains the documentation needed for students to run a project with a teacher or SEED volunteer, including a workshop overview and presentation, experiment instructions, and, in some cases, training videos. You can download SEEDKIT documentation from the SEED Web site, or you can order a CD/DVD from our online stores. Order SEEDKITS in seven languages from SWPS (Schlumberger employees only) or the SEEDSTORE. Some SEEDKITS require physical materials or activity parts, like the Fruit Power SEEDKIT and Solar Water Heater SEEDKIT. These items also can be procured through the SEED online stores, or sometimes from your local shops.

In this one- to two-hour workshop, students learn about electricity by building a battery using a lemon, as well as experimenting with other fruits and vegetables. Contents: SEEDKIT contains a DVD with documents and videos (in seven languages), and all the basic materials needed to conduct a one- to two-hour workshop. |
The kit includes a demonstration of how a bite from a mosquito spreads malaria, and a game that helps students learn about disease prevention. This will help students understand the basic mechanics of a mosquito bite and why malaria parasites are transferred this way. This activity typically lasts 45 minutes and is presented as a game to be played by the child and his/her parent—mentor—tutor. The purpose of this activity is to help children discover and track their unique individual learning strengths and talents, in the form of a game. In this activity students learn about the effect of temperature on the viscosity of typical liquids and the viscosity of liquids that have unusual properties.
